What we got
wrong

We published

Rs 79,85,000, graded confirmed.

Corrected to

Rs 92,99,999, from Cimex's own price list and Sealion 7 page.

Why it was wrong: The figure came from a single aggregator page, which still shows it, and was graded confirmed without a second source. Cimex lists one Sealion 7 (71.8 kWh, 100 kW) at Rs 92,99,999. We cannot tell whether Cimex ever sold it at Rs 79,85,000, and its list shows no date. We saw the distributor's figure on 25 October and left ours up for nine more days. A reader budgeting from our page would have been Rs 13 lakh short.

We published

Motor power 230 kW (313 hp), 420 km WLTP range, described as a performance SUV.

Corrected to

100 kW and 440 km WLTP, as Cimex's specification table gives them for the one version it sells.

Why it was wrong: When we fixed this entry on 11 September we changed the battery and clearance to the 100 kW car's but left the power figure from the faster version. That made the Sealion 7 look more than twice as powerful as the car the price buys, in every comparison it appeared in.

We published

The Nexon EV, Punch EV, ë-C3, ZS EV and Seal descriptions placed cars in EV levy bands, or explained price gaps by them, from their showroom prices.

Corrected to

Those statements are gone. The levy is banded by CIF import value, which we cannot see, as /methodology already said.

Why it was wrong: We had corrected the rule on /methodology and the calculator, but the same claim survived in five car descriptions. A correction is not finished while the old claim is still published somewhere else. The build now refuses descriptions that mention tax bands.

We published

Descriptions called the ë-C3 the cheapest way into an EV, the Magnite the cheapest new SUV, the petrol Punch the cheapest non-EV SUV and the petrol Tiago the cheapest Tata, among others.

Corrected to

All four were contradicted by cheaper cars in our own list, and are removed. Where a car is among the lowest-priced, its page now says so, computed from current prices and limited to the cars we track.

Why it was wrong: A superlative typed into a description goes stale the moment another price moves, while the price beside it updates itself. The build now refuses hand-written price superlatives.

We published

/methodology said every measure in a comparison counted equally. Safety stars from different crash-test programmes were scored against each other.

Corrected to

/methodology now shows the actual weights and thresholds, generated from the scoring code. Safety is only scored between cars rated by the same programme, and verdicts say which priorities they assume.

Why it was wrong: Weighting had shipped months earlier without the methodology being updated, and Global, Bharat and Euro NCAP stars are not one scale. Both were raised in an outside review on 26 October 2026.

We published

Graded indicative and flagged “Availability in doubt”, on the grounds that MG Motor Nepal's model index had no S5 EV page.

Corrected to

Confirmed on sale at Rs 43,99,000, from the importer's own model page.

Why it was wrong: MG has two importers in Nepal and we had checked only one. GO Automobiles (mgmotor.com.np) sells the India-built JSW MG range, which does not include the S5. Paramount Motors (mgmotors.com.np) imports the SAIC-built cars and lists the S5 EV at exactly the price we published. A reader could reasonably have crossed the car off their list on our say-so. A missing page only means something once you know you are on the right site.

We published

Motor power 125 kW (170 PS).

Corrected to

99 kW (135 PS), as Paramount Motors' own specification table gives it for every Nepal variant.

Why it was wrong: The figure did not come from the importer's page, and 125 kW is not a number that page gives for any variant sold here. It made the S5 look 26% more powerful than it is in every comparison it appeared in.

We published

Listed as on sale at Rs 56,55,000, graded indicative.

Corrected to

Removed from the dataset.

Why it was wrong: Three things were wrong at once. Tata Motors Nepal's own site lists Tiago, Punch, Nexon, Altroz, Curvv and Safari — no Harrier and no H5, which is the name it was sold under here because Toyota holds the Harrier trademark in Nepal. carnepal's Tata table omits it too. And the price was almost certainly wrong regardless: the sources that do cover the H5 put it at Rs 85.85–90.85 lakh, roughly Rs 30 lakh above what we published. A car that may not be sold, at a price that low, sends a reader to a showroom for something that is not there and would not cost that if it were. Same reasoning as the Toyota Rush and the Maruti Baleno before it.

We published

Comet EV Rs 19,99,000; Windsor EV Rs 37,99,000.

Corrected to

Comet EV Rs 18,75,000; Windsor EV Rs 41,49,000 — both from MG Motor Nepal's own model index.

Why it was wrong: We had the Comet too expensive by Rs 1.24 lakh and the Windsor too cheap by Rs 3.5 lakh, in opposite directions, which is why no single sanity check caught either. The distributor publishes both openly; we had been reading aggregators.

We published

Rs 78,00,000, with an 82.56 kWh battery, 482 km claimed range and 180 mm ground clearance.

Corrected to

Rs 79,85,000, with a 71.8 kWh battery, 420 km WLTP range and 170 mm ground clearance — the 100 kW rear-wheel-drive car the price actually refers to.

Why it was wrong: Two errors in one entry. The price predated a Rs 3 lakh increase, and the specs belonged to the all-wheel-drive version while the price belonged to the RWD. A reader comparing range or clearance was reading the wrong car, which is worse than the price being stale.

We published

Creta Rs 53,96,000; Venue Rs 40,96,000; Grand i10 Nios Rs 32,96,000.

Corrected to

Creta Rs 55,56,000; Venue Rs 41,96,000; Grand i10 Nios Rs 33,56,000 — all taken from Hyundai Nepal's own price list, effective 11 August 2026.

Why it was wrong: Our figures were July prices that the market had moved past, and no aggregator we checked agreed with any other on what had replaced them. Going to the distributor settled all three at once. The Creta had been sitting indicative for exactly this reason; it is now confirmed against the list Laxmi Hyundai publishes. Two other Hyundais — the Exter and Creta Electric — matched the official list to the rupee and needed no change.

We published

Listed as a “Hilux 2.4 GD” at Rs 1,02,00,000.

Corrected to

Hilux 2.8L diesel at Rs 1,49,00,000 manual, Rs 1,51,00,000 automatic, sourced to Toyota Nepal's own model page and corroborated by carnepal.

Why it was wrong: Toyota Nepal does not sell a 2.4 Hilux here — their model page lists only the 2.8 diesel. We were publishing a variant that is not on sale, at a price Rs 47 lakh below the real one. A buyer could have walked into a showroom expecting to pay two thirds of the actual price.

We published

Listed as on sale at Rs 92,00,000.

Corrected to

Removed from the dataset.

Why it was wrong: Toyota Nepal's own site has no Rush model page, and carnepal names it among models the distributor carried in the past, alongside the Etios Liva and Innova. Nepal Drives still lists it, but our methodology says the distributor wins when they disagree. Same class of error as the Maruti Baleno we pulled in July: listing a car Nepal no longer imports sends a reader to a showroom for something that is not there.

We published

Listed as on sale at Rs 86,50,000.

Corrected to

Removed from the dataset.

Why it was wrong: Toyota Nepal's site has no Corolla Altis page — the only Corolla they list is the Corolla Cross. Same reasoning as the Rush above.

We published

The site description read “Official NPR prices, specs & side-by-side comparison for every car sold in Nepal.” The social share image said “every car in Nepal”, and the /cars page invited you to “browse every car available in Nepal”.

Corrected to

“NPR prices, specs and side-by-side comparison for 34 cars in Nepal. Every price dated and sourced.” — and the count updates itself from the dataset, so it cannot drift again.

Why it was wrong: We track 34 cars. Several Nepali sites list more than a hundred. Claiming to cover every car in Nepal was simply false, and it was the first thing a reader saw in search results and on every shared link.

We published

A form that showed “an official dealer will contact you shortly” after a 1.5-second delay, then discarded the name and phone number.

Corrected to

A real endpoint. Details reach a person, and if we cannot take them the form says so and gives you a number to call instead.

Why it was wrong: The form was never wired to anything. It had not yet been placed on a live page, so no buyer was left waiting — but it was in the codebase ready to ship, and shipping it would have been the single most dishonest thing on the site.

We published

A placeholder phone number (+977 1 2345678), “helping Nepali car buyers since 2024”, dead social links, and two products described on the homepage — “Market Trends” and “Dealer Network” — that did not exist.

Corrected to

A number that rings, a named publisher, an accurate start year, and only features that are actually built.

Why it was wrong: Template scaffolding that was never replaced. A trust-first site cannot carry a fake phone number in its footer.

We published

Individual cars were described as sitting in a levy band based on their showroom price — e.g. “above Rs 50 lakh, so it carries the 130% levy”. Two cars quoted rates (110%, 15%) that do not appear in our own bracket table at all.

Corrected to

No car states a levy band. The levy is banded by CIF import value — what the importer declares at the border — which is not the showroom price and is not public per car. The calculator now says so on its input.

Why it was wrong: A category error on our part: we applied a CIF-based band to a retail figure. It was also propagating automatically onto every EV-vs-EV comparison page through the verdict generator, so it appeared on far more pages than it was written on. The 110% and 15% figures came from a source our own code comments flag as an outlier.

We published

Listed with a current Nepal price.

Corrected to

Removed from the site.

Why it was wrong: Import to Nepal stopped after 2022. Listing a car you cannot buy is worse than listing none.

We published

Listed as the Tata Harrier.

Corrected to

Listed as the Tata H5, with the price flagged indicative rather than confirmed.

Why it was wrong: Toyota holds the “Harrier” trademark in Nepal, so Tata sells the car here as the H5. Sources also conflict across the XZA / XZ+ / XZA+ variants, which is why the price carries a lower confidence grade instead of a number we cannot stand behind.

We published

Listed as diesel.

Corrected to

Corrected to petrol.

Why it was wrong: Nepal never received the diesel variant our data claimed. The spec had been carried over from Indian-market listings.

We published

Rs 1.25 crore

Corrected to

Rs 74.00 lakh

Why it was wrong: The worst error we have published. A 2024-era figure that was never re-checked, overstating the price by roughly Rs 51 lakh.

We published

Rs 1.32 crore

Corrected to

Rs 1.02 crore

Why it was wrong: Stale 2024 pricing, re-verified against current Nepali sources.

We published

Rs 55.90 lakh

Corrected to

Rs 61.99 lakh

Why it was wrong: Under-stated. The old figure pre-dated the 29 May 2026 tax change, which raised landed cost on most imported EVs.

We published

Rs 44.99 lakh

Corrected to

Rs 38.99 lakh

Why it was wrong: Over-stated by Rs 6 lakh. Stale 2024 pricing.

We published

Rs 47.99 lakh

Corrected to

Rs 52.99 lakh

Why it was wrong: Under-stated. Pre-dated the FY 2083/84 duty stack.

We published

Rs 38.99 lakh

Corrected to

Rs 35.75 lakh

Why it was wrong: Stale 2024 pricing, re-verified July 2026.

We published

Tata Nexon EV, BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS EV carried battery and range figures that did not match the variants actually sold in Nepal.

Corrected to

Nexon EV 30.2 kWh / 312 km · Atto 3 49.92 kWh / 345 km · ZS EV 51 kWh / 320 km — all claimed figures for the Nepal-market base variant.

Why it was wrong: Figures had been taken from international spec sheets rather than the variant imported here. Range on any EV is a claimed number; real-world figures in the hills are lower.
